The second book in the Storyteller Series, “The Quest of Galamar”, continues the tale of Lily Lightfoot and her friends Peter Everheart and Heather Whipple.  Now that they’ve found their way into the True World, the friends must rely on the help of Lord Gabriel, an enchanted elf, now a manticore, to find Lily’s captured grandmother, Gwendolyn.

Gabriel sends the three friends to find the full moon amulet, hidden deep in the mountains and guarded by a fierce dragon.  The amulet, one of four moonstones created ages ago by the fabled elf warrior Galamar, holds the power of the Northern Portal keeper, Ironblood the dragon.  Whoever possesses all four amulets has the power to recreate or destroy the True World.  Gabriel’s brother, Lord Kane, will stop at nothing to have the ancient powers for himself and keep Lily from fulfilling the Prophecy of Galamar.

On their epic journey, Lily learns more about magic, friendship, the power of forgiveness and finding the strength we all possess inside.

The story of Lily Lightfoot continues in The Quest of Galamar, the second book in the Storyteller series. I previously reviewed The True World, the first book in the series.

Lily Lightfoot has a special gift – she can make stories come true. This gift brought her into trouble more than once though, and because of it, she’s now in the True World, a fantastical, magical place filled with all kinds of enchanitng, but sometimes dangerous and threatening, creatures. She’s looking for her grandmother, Gwendolyn, who got kidnapped into this world. Her best friend Peter came along, and unfortunately, so did Heather, who isn’t exactly on Lily’s friend list. Heather used every opportunity she got at school to bully Lily, but maybe this trip will change that.

Now they’re in the True World, the adventure can start for real. They team up with a elf turned manticore, Gabriel, who happens to be the brother of the evil overlord who wants to destroy them, Lord Kane. Gabriel takes the three kids on a journey to find the full moon amulet, a powerful amulet that’s hidden deep in the mountains and protected by a dragon. It’s one of the four amulets needed to recreate or destroy the True World and whatever happens, Lord Kane can’t get his hands on it, no matter what.

I loved Lily and Peter in this adventure. They’ve grown a little, matured a little, since the first book, especially Lily. They have an unique, caring friendship that I found very charming. Even Heather has some endaring qualities here, although I continue to dislike her for how she treats Lily some of the time.

The characters may be loveable, but it’s the fast-paced plot and thrilling adventure that urges the book forward. I loved the True World, which is described well and sufficiently detailed to picture it, and the many creatures inhabiting it. There was always something new right around the corner, and when you thought the story would go one way, it twisted into another direction.

A great fantasy read. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ll get started on the third book in this series.
