200 years ago, the village of Clavitt Fields was burned to the ground. It was hoped that what lived there had perished in the fire. But they did not perish. They went underground…
For generations, they lived and bred in darkness, adapting themselves to a subterranean existence. Now they are rising to the surface, and what they’ve become is a horror beyond belief, a crawling nightmare of evil and bloodthirsty violence bent on destruction.
The night is alive…and it belongs to them.
NIGHTCRAWLERS, the horrifying new novel from master of suspense Tim Curran.
Nightcrawlers is unique, dark, terrifying and highly entertaining. The writing is sublime. Seriously, in terms of writing style, this must be the best book I’ve read in months. Tim Curran manages to craft sentences that feel like magic. The horrific images he creates are highly imaginative and original. The atmosphere is dark from the start, and slowly, the darkness crawls into the reader’s brain until you can picture yourself right in the middle of the madness.
The story starts with police officers investigating a field in which they’ve discovered several bodies. Local police enforcement and state troopers, are present at the scene. However, the local police isn’t too keen on spending a night out on the field. It’s too close to Clavitt Fields, a small village that was burned to the ground 200 years ago, and they’ve avoided ever since. Something isn’t right in Clavitt Fields, and its neighboring farms and farmland. Something wicked that comes out at night, and has an appetite that needs to be fed.
Officer Kenney is in charge of the investigation. He’s a practical man, not prone to any fancy, and so he doesn’t believe the warnings from local police. However, when an officer goes missing, and they go search for him, they stumble upon Clavitt Fields in the dead of night, and even Kenney has to admit he felt something there…something twisted, wrong, and very dangerous.
As he discovers more about the history of Clavitt Fields and the creatures dwelling in the fields surrounding it, he realizes he may be in a lot more danger than he initially imagined.
I loved how the story went from crazy serial killer (which is the first idea I had when I read about the discovery of the bodies) to so much more. Tim Curran definitely had a vivid imagination! The beginning of the book is sheer terror. The middle part is a little slower, but you constantly have that sense of dread crawling up your spine while reading. And then, the moment Kenney and his fellow officers go down into a crawlspace under a farm believed to be haunted, and enter an underground, subterrean world, the real horror begins.
Highly recommend to anyone who enjoys dark fiction and horror. Don’t read it if you want a good night’s sleep though.
I’m so sorry I’m late to comment. This book sounds amazing! And I’m going to go check it out at Amazon as soon as I finish writing this, lol. “…picture yourself right in the middle of the madness.” << That's some pretty good writing too!
