A crew of devious space pirates and their equally villainous captain set out on a quest to acquire a marvelous treasure from lore; known only to lay deep within the Abyss (A section of space not yet explored). Along their journey they are sidetracked however, and by some whim of fate find they’ve been included in a far more dangerous quest to save the entire universe.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from Through The Door – the blurb was short, and didn’t tell much. Once I started reading though, I was impressed by the lyrical prose, and the author’s ability to paint characters in just a few sentences, making me feel like I had a grasp of the character’s personality right from the start.

The only thing cooler than regular pirates must be space pirates, and that just happens to be the crowd we encountered in this book. They’re searching for a legendary treasure hidden deep within the Abyss, a section of space not yet explored by anyone. The descriptions of the Abyss made it easy to picture it in my mind. Once the pirates start their quest however, they end up on an even more dangerous, but far more heroic quest – to save the universe.

The book is a quick read, about 100 pages, and I finished faster than I would’ve hoped. I wouldn’t have minded if the book was longer. It’s fast paced with solid writing and a bunch of intriguing characters.

Recommended to anyone who enjoys science-fiction.
