Blue Brennan is jaded and bitter despite her pinup girl looks and quick wit. Night after night, she scours the Seattle club scene looking for someone or something to fill the emptiness inside.

When she meets the mysterious Kasey, her world stops… literally. He claims she has the ability to control time and stuns her even further when he reveals his own gifts.

Blue is inexplicably drawn to Kasey and reluctantly enters his world filled with a new breed of humanity. They’re misfits like her, blessed or cursed with powerful abilities, struggling to hide their differences from the rest of society.

Then the group discovers a nameless, faceless sociopath with nightmarish powers; and he’s coming for Blue. She’s left reeling when they discover her gifts are the key to defeating his terrible evil and saving them all.

Now she must race against the clock to harness her own powers and save her new friends. Can she be more than a renegade? Can she be a hero too?

The Blue Effect is an adult urban fantasy / science-fiction novel focusing on the story of Blue and Kasey. Blue has had a rough life so far, but behind her bitter exterior, she hides a complex, intriguing personality.

When she meets Kasey, she finds out she can stop time, and Kasey explains to her that not only does she have abilities, but he has gis own gifts as well. And they’re not the only ones. He introduces Kasey to a group of misfits with powerful abilities who struggle to hide their gifts from the rest of society. Think The Tomorrow People. Think X-Men. The plot has been done before, but the personalities of Blue and Kasey add an extra layer to the story, breathing new life into a familiar trope.

While Blue might’ve finally found a place she belongs, she finds out a nameless, faceless sociopath with horrible powers, is coming for her. She must learn to control her powers to save her new family, and her own life.

Blue is intriguing, like I mentioned, but it’s Kasey who stole the show. He was charming in almost every way. Mysterious, dangerous, the perfect hero with some bad-boy qualities. The writing is exquisite, and I felt drawn into the world of this book almost right away.

An entertaining start to a new series.
