*Companion to the Cassie Scot Series

I didn’t read the Cassie Scot series yet, of which this book is a companion, but I didn’t have much trouble diving right into Kaitlin’s Tale. Kaitlin is on the run from her baby’s father, a vampire who wants them to join him. Kaitlin wants to save her son from becoming part of the undead, so she seeks sanctuary with the Hunters Guild. Unfortunately, they have plans of their own for Kaitlin’s son, and she’s not as safe there as she had hoped.
When she runs into Matthew Blair, she’s hesitant to trust him because of what he did in the past, and because he’s a telepath. But Matthew might be Kaitlin’s only hope to escape, and to save her son.
I’m pretty sure I missed some subtle clues I would’ve picked up on if I read the other books, but I did enjoy reading this one. Kaitlin is a likeable heronie, although it took a while before I started to really like her, at least a few chapters. However, she’s intelligent, and willing to do whatever it takes to protect her child, and I respect that.
The world building is excellent, and I look forward to exploring more of this fantastic world author Christine Amsden has created.
