Author Interview with D.C. Triana

  • How long have you been writing?

Since I was sixteen years old. I used to write to escape from bullying in school. I found solace in writing my journals.

  • What is your favorite genre to write?

Romance, although I am partial to vampire series.

  • Which genre have you never tried before, but would you like to try out?

I’m dipping my toes into Suspense right now, which has proven to be interesting. But the genre I definitely want to delve into, is horror.

  • Please tell us about your book.

Damian & Layla is the second the second couple in the Sunset Reads series. They are William & Cristina’s best friends. I wanted Damian to be the opposite of William. Less charm, more rough around the edges. He’s exciting and dark, and knows what he wants. Layla is a woman who has been hurt by love. She’s smart and is finally getting her life together when Damian shows up again. She suddenly finds herself running into the arms of the man she swore to stay away from, because he is the only one she trusts to protect her. There’s villains and lovers. It’s a thrilling story.

  • Which character was your favorite, and why? Which character was your least favorite, and why?

My favorite character was Damian. I liked his sexiness and that he wasn’t perfect. His imperfections are what draws you to him. My least favorite character was Katerina Dubov, the antagonist. She was very intricate and I had to make the storyline around her confusing and dark. It was a new task for me to place myself in her shoes. Although it may have been my least favorite, I still enjoyed writing her. It was a new experience.

  • What was the hardest part about writing your book?

Being an FBI agent is tough, especially when you have no clue of what that world entails. I have to say the research is always the hardest part when writing a book.

  • What is your writing routine? Are there things you absolutely need to start writing?

Well, I don’t really have one. It happens out of the blue. I could be at work, watching a movie, listening to music and bam, the idea comes into play. I always carry a notebook with me due to that factor. The only thing I absolutely need to start writing is music and coffee- a Peppermint Mocha is my favorite.

  • How long did it take you to write your book from start to finish?

It took me six months, and that includes the tedious editing portion.

  • Can you tell us about your editing process?

I usually do a first run through of the book and as I go I start to change phrasing, sometimes I expand on the story. The second run through I focus on names and grammar, making sure everything flows. The third run through is done by my best friend. She is a romance book collector and she is the one who gives me the opinion on whether the storyline is interesting. If she tells me she enjoyed it, then it’s a page turner. The fourth run through is done by my wonderful editor who has taken her time to make sure the grammar is correct and the story line makes sense. A tedious process it is.

  • Is this book part of a series? If so, how many installments do you have planned?

Yes, this is the second novel out of four.

  • Do you have any advice for aspiring authors?

My only advice is to go for it. Don’t be afraid just hit that enter button and publish. Take the bad with the good, learn from it, and move forward. If you get stuck on the negative alone you’ll never succeed. Also, expect bad reviews. Not everyone is going to love your book, but that doesn’t mean you won’t succeed.

  • Why should everyone read your book?

Because Damian is hot! Lol. Seriously, it’s a thrilling read, It’s got suspense, romance, and hot sexy scenes, what more can you ask for. It’s also a wonderful love story.

  • If you could meet three authors, dead or alive, which authors would you choose?

Oh wow, my first is Jane Austen. I absolutely adore her work. Her strength to be able to do what she wanted in that time is admirable. My second author is Laurell K. Hamilton because she rocks and is a total badass just like her characters. The third author is Lauren Blakely, she’s a fantastic author and a total inspiration as to what I want to become. I’d love to delve into her mind and find out how she comes up with such fantastic stories.

  • What inspired you to write your book?

Sunset Reads was an idea I got from past relationships mixed in with my obsession with Superman. I thought what if I could find such a perfect man in reality, what would he be like and William appeared. Damian is the opposite of the blue-eyed hunk, the dark to his light. I always wanted to work for a publishing house and live in Manhattan which is where the setting started out. Layla is a successful PR director which is my dream job. Slowly the stories started to flow and a lot of the characters are based on my actual friends.

  • Are you working on something at the moment? If so, can you tell us more about it?

Yes, I’m working on the third installment of Sunset Reads, Sebastian & Daisy. Sebastian is turning out to be one of my favorites. He’s the slick, dirty talking, narcissistic alpha-male every woman loves to hate. Daisy is definitely turning out to be an eccentric female lead, she’s got her vulnerability and fights her attraction to Sebastian and his smooth-talking ways. Their story is turning out to be quite interesting and super fun.

One year.

It’s been one year since Agent Damian Trent left for Washington without a word.

One year since he’s seen her beautiful face.

One year since he’s heard his name on her lips.

He’s been recently called back to New York City on assignment, to catch a criminal who’s trying to infiltrate Sunset Reads. The last thing he expects is to work side by side with the woman he turned his back on.

Having her close is an unwanted distraction that he’s more than willing to ignore, if only she wasn’t so damn tempting.

Everything seems under control, until a night of feverish passion has him abandoning all thoughts of reason. Now, he will do everything in his power to get her back, and even more so to protect her.

Layla Reece wants nothing to do with the man who left her a year ago.

The man who took her heart with him, leaving her broken.

After a year of trying to forget Damian Trent, she is finally ready to move on.

But trying to forget him becomes a tedious task when he suddenly reappears in her life.

Although she fights to stay away, his magnetism is too strong and she finds herself giving into the deep timbre of his voice, and the strength and safety of his arms.
