About The Book

Cover_ebook_EntangleTitle: Entangle

Author: Veronica Larsen

Genre:  Romance (Adult, Contemporary)

Happily ever after? It doesn’t exist.

I wore the big white dress and rode off with Prince Charming. Then Charming changed his mind.

These days, I don’t put my heart in anyone’s hands because I don’t even know where I’ve left it.

So when a ruggedly handsome, blue-eyed man stirs my desires awake for the first time in years, I tell myself it’s a one-time thing.

And now? I’m hooked. Nothing could prepare me for Leo. He weaves simple, deliberate movements into pure, gilded pleasure. Like a sensual alchemist.

I’m so blinded by lust I barely notice the gaping hole opening underneath me, the one that’s sure to swallow me down. Because every time I’ve dared to get close to someone, they’ve cracked me wide open.

Why should this time be any different?

Release Day Party The Blue Effect

releasedayblue

We’re hosting the release day party today for adult urban sci-fi / fantasy “The Blue Effect”. Happy release day to “The Blue Effect”.

The Blue Effect

frontcoverTitle: The Blue Effect

Author: Rose Shababy

Genre: Adult Urban Sci-Fi/Fantasy

Blue Brennan is jaded and bitter despite her pinup girl looks and quick wit. Night after night, she scours the Seattle club scene looking for someone or something to fill the emptiness inside.

When she meets the mysterious Kasey, her world stops… literally. He claims she has the ability to control time and stuns her even further when he reveals his own gifts.

Blue is inexplicably drawn to Kasey and reluctantly enters his world filled with a new breed of humanity. They’re misfits like her, blessed or cursed with powerful abilities, struggling to hide their differences from the rest of society.

Then the group discovers a nameless, faceless sociopath with nightmarish powers; and he’s coming for Blue. She’s left reeling when they discover her gifts are the key to defeating his terrible evil and saving them all.

Now she must race against the clock to harness her own powers and save her new friends. Can she be more than a renegade? Can she be a hero too?

The best debut novel I’ve read in years. Blue is the type of unique, honest, protagonist usually only experienced in Stephen King novels. The Blue Effect was part Fight Club, part X-Men and sucked me in from the very first chapter to the very last word. Powerfully written with a compelling plot and wicked antagonist. Couldn’t ask for anything more – except the sequel! – Robert Dugoni, NY Times Best Selling Author My Sister’s Grave

Author Bio

author photoRose Shababy and her family reside in eastern Washington State. Rose grew up in the Northwest but swears she’s going to move to warmer climates someday. She’s claimed this for over 20 years, however, and has yet to move more than 75 miles away from her mother.

Rose has a deep love of all things Star Trek and yearns to travel the heavens, as well as an intense desire to be bitten by a radioactive spider. Unfortunately she sucks at science and math so she hasn’t been able bring her dreams to life, instead living vicariously through books, comics, television and film. She hopes to someday make a million dollars so she can afford to buy her way to the international space station, but she’d settle for being able to fly around the world and leap tall buildings in a single bound.

Rose also loves to cook and worked for years in a gourmet Italian grocery and deli where she learned to hone her skills. She prepares culinary masterpieces for her family, but fervently wishes the dishes would wash themselves. Especially now that her dishwashers/children are nearly grown and only one still lives at home.

Rose likes to use her free time wisely. For instance, she likes to daydream, will often read for hours until she falls asleep on the couch with an electric blanket and a warm tabby cat curled up on her hip, as well as spending cozy weekend days watching Syfy movies like Sharknado and Mega Piranha with her husband.

If Rose were a cartoon animal, she’d prefer to be a wise old owl or a sleek and sexy jaguar, but in reality she’d probably be a myopic mole with coke-bottle glasses.

Paige Donovan is an ambitious college graduate who aspires to reach the top of the corporate ladder. She’s climbing fast when given the promotion of a lifetime at a prestigious fashion magazine in New York City. Her bright future comes to an unexpected halt after news of her father’s death. She inherits his old cabin in the Colorado Rockies, and just when she thinks her luck couldn’t get any worse, she has a car accident in the mountains and awakens in the small, remote community of Black River.

Soon, she’s engulfed in the mystical world of Varulv—wolves descended from 13th century Scandinavia and blessed by Norse gods with the ability to appear human. Paige is desperate to return home, but never expects to fall for her rescuer, Riley Gray, a charming young werewolf from England who offers her an alternate future with his pack.

Now, she must choose between the career she’s always wanted and the love she’s always dreamed.

I find werewolf stories usually to be less interesting as vampires / witches, mostly because they tend to have pretty basic core, and little originality. The Howling Heart proved me very, very wrong. The author has been inspired by Norse culture and ancient folklore to craft a rather impressive werewolf legend that definitely ranks high on the originality ladder.

Paige, our main character, had it all. Climbing the corporate ladder three steps at a time, so to speak, she thought life couldn’t get any better. It ended up getting a lot worse. Her Dad passed away, and in an attempt to deal with her grief, she travels to the cabin he left for her in his will, a remote cabin far away from civilization, which her family visited sometimes when she was younger.

The setting is a small, remote village. I love those kind of villages, old and traditional, tucked away from the rest of the world, where everyone knows everyone. The setting was described well, and I immediately felt like I could picture the scenes.

Added in is, of course, an alpha male, Riley Gray. I usually tend to dislike the alpha male trope because for some reason, these alphas always act like they’re superior to everyone. Riley doesn’t really act that way though. He’s protective, he likes to take charge, and he’s very good at charming people, but he lacks most of the personality traits I tend to dislike about alphas.

This book is a gritty read, and you know, wolves will be wolves, so the action in the bedroom (and other places) is always a bit on the rough side. I’d definitely recommend keeping this book away from minors.

I enjoyed the plot, characters, setting, and the writing as well. A solid read.

Release Day Party The Emperor’s New Clothes

releasemperor

I’m happy to celebrate the release day party today for “The Emperor’s New Clothes”, a scifi M/M romance novel.

You can buy your copy from Amazon or Smashwords!

About the Book

RR1ATitle: The Emperor’s New Clothes

Author: Aldous Mercer

Genre: SciFi M/M Romance

Imperial Agent Royce Ree needs to pull off the biggest heist the Universe has ever seen, or it’s bye-bye cushy government job, hello cleaning toilets in a dive-bar on Baga-V.

To succeed, he will need help from the last person he’d ever ask: his ex.
THIS IS THE FULL-LENGTH OMNIBUS EDITION (#1 – #5).

THE EMPEROR’S NEW CLOTHES: PART 1

Royce has a simple mission: steal some tech from the newly-discovered civilization of Baldessh. But Royce thinks HQ’s mission specifications are utterly stupid. So he disobeys a direct order, and goes to steal the tech his own way.

“The Empire has survived wars, supernovae, democracy, and the collapse of a neighborhood universe. Let us hope it survives the good intentions of Agent Royce Ree.”
– Author unknown (personal communication to the Emperor)

DRIVEPOLITIK: PART 2

Royce’s primary mission has been abandoned in the chaos of Baldessh’s hostile takeover by a third party. Now his only objective is to get himself, and his fellow “agent” off-planet as fast as possible. Unfortunately for Royce, nobody is quite ready for him to leave just yet.

“”I find it curious that the agent was not rescued before the comms-blockade, Spymaster.”
“Imperial Intelligence is not in a habit of rescuing AWOL agents, Councillor. Apprehend and prosecute, yes, but not rescue.”
“I suppose both of us must wait. For…evidence.”
“Would you mind waiting somewhere other than my office? Only, we can’t all be Councillors, Councillor, and I have real work to do.”
-Conversation, Imperial Intelligence Headquarters, Trinity Prime

THE GORILLA IN THE VENTS: PART 3

Royce now has three days to rescue 40,000 space marines, and he’s just been told that the tech he came to Baldessh for doesn’t actually exist. He also has some real problems—his co-agent’s time is running out, and somewhere, far away, traitors are plotting to start a war that will engulf the entire Universe in flames.

Hope, however, can sometimes be found in the darkest of places. Like ventilation ducts.
“ “Every pre-FTL civilization we know of has alcohol. I mean, imagine being stuck to a single planet, wasting decades just crossing your own solar system! Who wouldn’t invent vodka?”
-Gaste Trade Cartel Sales Representative (Conversation overheard at spaceport dive-bar, Gomo-Prime)

MADMAN’S RUE: PART 4

Royce has been betrayed, Baldessh’s burgeoning rebellion is going to be crushed, and all the animals are going to be exterminated. But Royce is smiling. Because Royce, like always, has a Plan.

“ “An Imperial Agent cultivates paranoia the way an Imperial Gardener cultivates prize-winning rosebushes.”
-Master Mess-Remeier,”The Nature of Empire: Volume 7”, 1st Edition

IMPERIAL COMMAND: PART 5

It looks like things are going to be OK for everyone except Royce and his ex. Looks can be deceiving—there are plots within plots, and Royce’s true test awaits him at the edge of Imperial Space.

“ “I’m sorry, sir, your payment didn’t go through.”
“What! Why?”
“There is a hold on your accounts, pending a Deadbeat Investigation.”
“I’m the Procurement Officer for the entire Kovan Fleet, woman!”
“Yes, sir, I recognized your uniform. But I’m afraid your job description has nothing to do with this conversation.”
“The hell it doesn’t! What are my soldiers going to do if you don’t sell to us?”
“Respectfully, sir, that’s not my problem.”
“We’re in the middle of an invasion!”
“I’m very sorry to hear that. Perhaps your soldiers could target a facility that manufactures the toilet paper you need?”
–Transcript, Kovan Flagship: “Comms exchange between Fleet Procurement and Gaste Cartel Customer Service.”

ROYCE REE #6: ON THE TAKE is coming out in 2014.

1942: a bored British soldier in Baghdad; a beautiful Babylonian Goddess; a sacred marriage unconsummated.
Five years later, in a dreary post-war London, the Goddess must be satisfied.
Can anyone save her demobbed consort from eternal torment?
Or eternal bliss?
Can he save himself?
Does he even want to be saved?
And what’s it got to do with the ‘wickedest man in the world’?

I was pleasantly surprised by The Goddess and The Great Beast. The setting is Baghdad in the middle of World War II, at least that’s where the story starts. Vivian, the hero of this story, is bored and spends most of his time hanging out with Farouk, a smuggler who also happens to be a member of a secret cult, which intrigues Vivian endlessly. He begs Farouk to take him to one of the cult meetings, and what he sees there, changes his life forever.

He takes a secret drug no one should know about it, and enters a hallucination about an ancient Babylonian Goddess. Afterward, he nags Farouk to bring him along again, and he does so, even if it’s against custom. But the further Vivian gets trapped into the world of ancient rites and customs, the more he feels the rituals may be dangerous. Until the goddess attacks him with a knife, then he decides it’s time to quit.

The goddess, Ishtar, continues to torment him though, while he travels through the Middle East. After the war, he settles down in London, convinced the Goddess has finally left him alone. He gets a girlfriend, JJ, and starts to enjoy life again. That is, until he meets Ishtar once again, this time as a singer in a London bar.

The story is unique and intriguing, and I had no idea what was going to happen next. The author has a way with words that is definitely intriguing to read. He knows his vocabulary well. The characters were also very interesting, especially Vivian. They’re not your standard cardboard cut-out characters. They’re three-dimensional, with enough qualities and flaws to make them stand out.

An excellent read, and one I’d recommend to anyone who enjoys supernatural thrillers.

For Jack Lewis love comes from unexpected places…so does tragedy. When David arrived on Vancouver Island, he was just another tourist looking to charter a boat. A few hours on the water together proves he is more than that. As a world traveler, David is a man of mystery who has been everywhere and seen everything.

Attraction draws them together but an attempt at a meaningless fling fails one touch at a time when Jack feels more than he thought he would. The love affair sparks fear in David and jealousy in Emerson, the man who frequents Jack’s bed in a relationship that is all sex and no soul.

At odds with the men in his life Jack tries to talk David into staying and Emerson into going. The attempt sends things spinning out of control and he struggles with the consequences that could leave him empty handed.

Jack Lewis is captain of a charter boat. He’s always had trouble trusting people, and his current relationship is a great example of his trust issues. He and Emerson, the man he’s with, are mostly interested in a physical relationship, and not in anything actually meaningful. For Jack, that’s just the way he wants it – until he meets David.

David is everything Jack hoped for, and never realized he was waiting for. Even after just a few hours, the two of them connect in a way Jack never thought possible. David is mysterious, charming, well-travelled, and intriguing, a refreshing change from the people Jack is used to. But while he opens up to David, he never suspected to actually feel something more than desire.

Jack was rather down-to-earth, but also quite determined in getting what he wanted once he had his eyes set on something. He had a strong, interesting personality. David was more frivolous, free, wild. But once they got to know each other and opened up toward each other, it was amazing. There was so much chemistry between these two characters, and their personalities really matched together. I liked each of them as a person, but as two people in a relationship, they were absolutely great.

This was a great read, with lovely, relatable characters, an interesting plot, and a fitting writing style. If you’re in the mood for some romance to lift up your spirits during these dark autumn days, Changing Tide would be a great choice.

Who knew that loving a Nephilim could be so dangerous.

Faelon, a 3000-year-old nephilim, fleeing a demonic master, found safety with the church. He has repaid their kindness by translating various artifacts. Father Donovan has watched as Faelon became a recluse, fearing those who would harm him.

Jax, wanting a change, moves to Salem, MA where he finds work as a churches security guard. Not believing that Faelon is a nephilim, he is forced to confront his own beliefs in the supernatural.

Can he learn to accept Faelon, and be the master he requires? Or lose the man he loves to the demons who would harm him.

I’ll start by saying up front that I really liked the background story and mythology in this book. Faelon, the main character, is a Nephilim. He’s an immortal, and has been alive for over three thousand years. He’s been used as a pleasure slave for centuries, passed on from master to master whenever they got bored of him. However, a demon kidnapped him, tortured and abused him, and he’s been traumatized by the events ever since. Fleeing to earth seemed like the only option left. He found solace in a small church in Salem, where he hides from the demon still out to get him. His job consists of translating ancient artifacts.

Jax has recently moved to Salem, trying to escape his past, and yearning for a change. He finds a job as a security guard for the local church, which has a lot of ancient artifacts that require safe-keeping. He quickly meets with the resident artifact translator, Faelon, and the two have an instant connection.

Faelon, who’s become a recluse from spending centuries in hiding, wants to open up to this enigmatic stranger. But he’s wary of the demon resurfacing, and afraid that Jax won’t believe his story of supernatural creatures. And like that’s not bad enough, Faelon also has to tell Jax that he’s interested in BDSM. Jax is a fledgling Dom, and even though he’s not scared to try out a few things, the world of BDSM is completely new to him, as is the world of the supernatural. If he wants to be with Faelon and give him what he needs, then he’ll has to get used to both worlds…

Faelon was an intriguing character. Usually when I read about thousand-year-old angels, they tend to act like snappy teenagers or childish adults, especially when taken into account how long they’ve been alive. It’s like they didn’t learn anything during those thousand-plus years. Faelon isn’t like that. He’s seen and learned a lot of things, and it shows, especially when compared to Jax. I liked Faelon most of both main characters, particularly because of his intriguing history that shaped him into he is today. I liked Jax as well though. Jax is less complex – at least, on first sight – but he’s also adventurous, intelligent and sometimes, downright hilarious. Faelon and Jax’s interactions range from sexy and intimate to flirtatious to hilarious.

The attraction between both MC’s is instant, but their relationship takes a while to develop, which added some bonus points for me (I absolutely hate insta-love). The characters were entertaining enough, and the back story was pleasant as well. My only pet peeve was the villain. He’s not portrayed as a three-dimensional character, and his role in the book is rather brief. Apart from that, I really liked this book though. The paranormal aspect was great, the pacing was all right, and the writing style was decent as well. A good choice for people who enjoy M/M romance and/or paranormal romance.
