Book Excerpt The Kidnapping of Senator Andy Thompson

Senators Andy Thompson and Hunt Wagner lead the way in a spirited debate on a new health care bill and whether or not to stop President Robinson and Secretary Von Schumann from sending troops to Botswana. A real adventure begins when Senator Thompson is kidnapped and Brian Travors, the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State is suspected of being involved. Senators Hunt Wagner and Darius Clemens head a committee hearing to get to the truth. President Robinson suffers a heart attack and Vice-President Barry Newman takes over temporarily.

Book Excerpt

“Mr. President, my distinguished colleagues, I rise to support this resolution and to put the Senate on record as being opposed to sending our boys to fight in what is mostly a civil war between Botswana and Mozambique. We cannot and we must not repeat Vietnam. We are the most powerful nation in the world but, we cannot send our troops everywhere. We must have a foreign policy, which dictates our national priorities. This Administra-tion needs to form a better strategy for our national foreign policy. I yield the floor.”

Senator Wagner rose to speak. “I ask for the ayes and nays on this resolution.”

Senator Gibson announced. “The clerk will call the roll.”

“Mr. Atkins, Mr. Blakely, Mr. Bauman, Mr. Clemens, Mr. Coleman, Mr. Connors, Mr. Dion, Ms. DuBois, Mr. Evans, Ms. Ferreira, Mr. Gain, Mr. Gibson, Mr. Iannotti,…”

“On this resolution, the vote was eighty-five yes, and fifteen nay, the resolution is agreed to.”

Hunt and Andy were proud of themselves because they had taken a step forward. Now it was up to the president. What would he do? How would he react? No one really knew.

President Kirk Robinson sulked in the chair in the Oval Office. Why was everything going so wrong for him when it had all started out so good? The first few months of his administration he had succeeded in getting three major bills passed through the Congress, one of them being the Budget Act, but somehow everything suddenly went wrong and now he was the bad guy. It seemed to be the doings of two men, Secretary von Schumann, his Secretary of State, and the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, Brian Travors. They were truly bad news.

Why did I ever bother to nominate them? They have been nothing but trouble. He decided to call Senator Bauman because he needed to reach out to the members of the Senate and now was the time.

England in the near future –

Though you may not like what you see.

The Cazenoves and the Wilsons don’t get along, leastways the parents don’t – the teenage kids adore each other, but when the oldest Wilson girl falls pregnant, sparks fly.

Donald Cazenove just happens to be Fred Wilson’s boss, but Fred isn’t without influence himself, being the senior shop steward, and the business is struggling anyway, and a strike could play havoc with Donald’s figures.

“The Inconvenient Unborn” is set in England in the near future where after years of austerity, a left wing Labour Party has been returned to power with a huge majority, and they now intend to change Britain forever. They have a mandate. They have conviction. They have momentum.

And then there’s a state visit to Britain by the most powerful man on the planet, Yuri Premakov, the Russian President, and his precocious and very beautiful film star wife, Tamara, bringing gifts of gas and oil and energy, at a price, and he’s scheduled to visit Lymington on the south coast, where most of this book is set.

So who wins out? The Cazenoves or the Wilsons, and what exactly are Yuri Premakov and his vast entourage up to in Britain?

“The Inconvenient Unborn” will take you on a journey you can barely imagine.

In The Inconvenient Unborn, author David Carter sketches a gritty world in the near future. The Cazenoves and Wilsons don’t get along, at least their parents don’t, but the children get along well enough. Kind of like Romeo and Juliet but set in the future, and not as grim, this is a pleasant read with some unexpected surprises.

There’s also a hint of mystery and political drama as the Russian President, Yuri Premakov, visits Lymington, bearing gifts but they come at a steep price. The focus on politics works surprisingly well. It’s hard to match the book under one genre, as it’s a bit of a mix of genres, but nonetheless very entertaining. It was different from what I expected, and if you enjoy political thrillers, I think you’ll enjoy this one too.

Author Bio

I have been writing for longer than I care to remember. Even as a ten year old child I would design my own newspaper and fill it with family news, much to my mother’s amusement when she once found a copy containing a story that she didn’t fully approve of!

My writing started seriously when I was in business and I was approached to write a column, and that developed into writing columns for newspapers and magazines in many fields, including computing, commodities, farming, property, sport, philately, business and small business, many of which I have actually been paid good money for, and that always brings a nice feeling that never goes away.

My syndicated online articles have now been read by over 300,000 people across the globe and show no sign of slowing down.

It was a fairly small step after that to writing books and I have now written more than a dozen, both fiction and non fiction, and I try to write and complete at least one full length book every year.

Like most writers and aspiring writers I have many more in the pipeline, both part finished, abandoned, or in an unedited state, and finding the time to complete them is always the big enemy there.

Ideally, I would like to find a literary agent who could assist me in taking my writing to the next level, so if you are out there and you like what you see and read then do please get in touch.

Besides writing I sell books for a living and currently have more than 10,000 titles in the house and please don’t ask me where they all are because the simple answer is that they are pretty much everywhere!

I am currently working on a new Inspector Walter Darriteau novel and after that I may go back to writing a sequel to Gringo Greene, though ordinarily I prefer to write something completely fresh, rather than revisiting old ground.

It always amazes me that someone like Lee Child can write book after book featuring the same character and similar adventures, though all best wishes to him for he has been incredibly successful.

A political drama that will leave you gasping!

In a joint exercise with the Korean navy, Admiral Pacino’s son is one of the casualties from a North Korean missile strike.

Conducting negotiations with North Korean in an attempt to normalize relations, the Secretary of State learns that the CIA is secretly funding a faction to topple the Supreme Leader. Furious, President Walters fires the CIA Director and installs a replacement.

In the Yellow Sea, the United States and South Korea commence their annual joint naval exercises. A North Korean corvette launches a strike against an American destroyer, causing casualties. In charge of the exercise, Admiral Pacino learns that his son is severely wounded. He dies a day later.

Although Pacino understands the need for restraint by everybody, he is dismayed to read that the President is more interested in making a settlement with North Korea than acknowledging the lives lost—on both sides. To remind the administration and both Koreas that every life is valuable and should not be thrown away in a diplomatic gesture, he mounts a strike against unmanned military installations in the two Koreas. Summoned to Washington to face a hearing, Pacino’s flight is sabotaged and his aircraft crashes.

President Walters understands what Pacino has done, but faced with ‘big picture’ considerations, he cannot condone the action. The reformist faction topples the Supreme Leader and the new leadership makes overtures to America to hand over their nuclear warheads and dismantle long-range missiles.

Surviving the crash, Pacino faces charges that would see him serving time in Leavenworth. However, his action has struck a responsive chord with many in the military and the public. Although nothing could be done to save his career, President Walters does not want Pacino crucified.

The hearing exposes the heartless treatment of veterans by the government and the military. To limit political damage, the Navy awards Pacino administrative punishment in lieu of a general court-martial. Appreciating Pacino’s qualities, Walters offers him a position as Advisor to the President to get things fixed.

A stunning geopolitical thriller that examines American foreign policy and national values.

What I liked the most about Proportional Response, was how well the author knew the subject matter. From the clashing of cultures between North Korea and the United States, to the political situation between both countries, to human nature and how humans would react to tragedy, all of it is sport on and shows the author’s impressive knowledge of the material, and of human psychology.

The writing was excellent and pulled me in right from the start. The focus on international politics worked well, and despite the descriptions of how everything worked, and the sometimes impressive amount of details, it was still a fast-paced read. At the end of the book, I had a feeling I’d actually learned something, all while enjoying myself and getting lost in the impressive plot.

I would recommend this to fans of political thrillers and intellectual thrillers. It’s a gem in its genre, and I can’t praise it enough.

Book Review: Jack Canon’s Women of the House

Author: Greg Sandora

Genre: Political Thriller

Rating: 4 stars

Review copy provided by Enchanted Book Promotions in exchange for an honest review.

Two months have passed since the long awaited inauguration of the New President of the United States – Jack Canon. Now he must live up to his promises. The World is wounded, people are hurting, the new President must keep the country afloat. Jack leads a very full life – The first couple’s relationship is hot with passion, but he can never admit that to Sandy, his best friend who is also head over heels in love with him. The Women of the House provide a welcome distraction while helping with the arduous task of running the country.

As President Jack must make tough decisions: Global Terrorism, Human Trafficking, Korea on the brink of war, all while thwarting International Greed. Women of the House is a story of noble sacrifice at extremely high cost. Who’s going to be the first to be strong enough and willing to pay? It’s not all work in Women of the House – Think the Wedding of the Decade meets the Crime of the Century.

Jack Canon’s Women of the House, is a story filled with Love, Lust, and Loyalty where passions can run wild! In Sandora’s monumental sequel, patriotism and valor mingle with an undying love that refuses to quit. Ride along as Jack Canon fights back against the most evil people on the planet. Readers are sure to embrace this unforgettable tale which will appeal to fans of political adventure, suspense and romance alike. Jack Canon’s Women of the House is a story of kindness, passion and courage that can’t be separated.

In Jack Canon’s Women of the House, Jack may be settled in the White House as the next president – he has his hands full dealing with how hectic his life suddenly turned out to be. Terrorist attacks, human trafficking, Korea preparing for war, leave him little time to take a break. And then, of course, there are the women of the house. His wife, who he wants to stay faithful to, and his secretary and best friend, Sandy, who is quite obviously head over heels for him. Jack somehow manages to surround himself with pretty women, although they’re obviously one of his most obvious flaws.

The book feels quite busy at times, and a lot is going on at once. I didn’t mind, this kept the pacing high, and kept me thoroughly entertained. I also admire the author for being brave enough to show the ‘bad’ side of presidency too. While one may start out as an idealist, not everyone in the White House and the president’s inner circle share the same ideals. Some people are highly ambitive, cunning, sometimes even manipulative, willing to do whatever it takes to get what they desire.

The sub-story lines of romance, and Jack’s interaction with the women in his life, was entertaining, but I hope that a real president would be professional enough to keep his head in the game, and not out to conquer women’s hearts. It seems like Jack definitely wants to succeed, but he may be a bit too extracted to do so. It makes for great, sometimes quite funny, reading though.

Overall, another great book by talented author Greg Sandora. His writing is solid, and his characters are each entertaining in their own way. Will there be a third novel in the series? I sure hope so.

Book Tours: Book Excerpt Jack Canon’s American Destiny

I’m hosting an excerpt today from political thriller “Jack Canon’s American Destiny”. Enjoy the snippet!

Book Excerpt

“Sandy, come here a minute. We haven’t had a chance to just sit and talk for a while.” She came over and sat close enough I could smell her perfume.

“What is it, Jack?”

“That’s a nice scent; what is it?”

“Oh you noticed. It’s Clive Christian; I got it at Neiman Marcus. I just thought I needed to treat myself.”

Taking off one of her gold hoop earrings she laid her head sideways, on the couch back cushion, “I thought of you when I picked it out.”

“Sandy, it’s going to get crazy around here.”

“That’s nothing new, Jack. That’s part of your charm; it’s always a Three Ring Circus around you.”

Sandy turned to look up at me, her big eyes enhanced by a smoky eye shadow, “Jack, I feel like I don’t belong anywhere but with you.”

I felt guilty – she was so perfect, so deserving of love. “This can’t be everything you had planned for your life, what did you want? I mean when you were younger?”

Sandy looked straight into my eyes and without her saying a word, I imagined what she was thinking. If our lips so much as grazed a passing touch, would that ignite a fire of passion that would have us tearing at each other’s clothes?

She looked away and spoke in a whisper, “People who love us as friends would never forgive us as lovers.”

“Sandy, you know I need you to keep an eye on the Senate staff when I’m on the road.”

“You can always count on me, but don’t think it’s not going to cost you. I’m still going to tease you every time you’re back in town!”

I laughed and Sandy shot me a look, like… “You just wait mister!”

“Tell me honestly, Jack. On the road, have you ever had any close calls?”

I took a deep breath. “I was weak many years ago and might have fooled around a bit, but never a relationship. None of the women had any substance. That’s why I need you so much; you understand. Be my friend; look out for me. We’re a team and we care for each other.”

Sandy emboldened, “How can you be so strong, Jack, aren’t you ever tempted, I mean with us?”

“Sandy, you’re beautiful and talented and I love everything you are to me, but I think of my wife and my girls and pray not to be.”

No longer able to contain her feelings, teary eyed, “Can you imagine? I love my work because you’re here and I get to be with you…”

I leaned to her and spoke into her hair, “I promise you’ll find someone. We’ll always be best friends. I’ll always care for you.”

We just sat there for five minutes. Then breaking the silence, Sandy asked, “Jack, do you remember the day we first met?”

“Sure I do…close your eyes… imagine this girl pops in through the door of a rented store front, our eyes met and my heart stopped… I remember she reminded me of Marilyn Monroe the way she looked in the early years in soft focus. I couldn’t take my eyes off of her.”

Sandy moved towards me and gently rested her head on my chest, “That was me, Jack.”

“Yes and I remember a black and white pencil skirt and a white blouse. I thought, ‘this girl must have her own personal designer creating clothes just for her.’”

Sandy never tanned and her soft white cleavage overflowed whatever she wore. It wasn’t a stretch to tell her a designer could be so inspired.

There was a knock on the office door, the door opened slightly. Tip was calling in through the opening, “Jack, may I have a word?”

“Sure Tip, come on in.” Tip walked into the office, came around the corner and took a seat in the chair nearest the couch where I was sitting. Sandy adjusted herself, quickly moving her head to my shoulder.

“Jack, I didn’t realize you were busy, I apologize, this subject matter may not be something…”

I said, “Tip anything you need to say can be said in front of Sandy.”

“He’s right, Tip,” Sandy said, “Jack could pull his gun from the wall safe and blow your brains out right in front of me. I’d stuff your dead corpse into a sack and clean up the mess. Jack is my life and I’m alone in this world without him.”

Tip said, “I like that about you. But really, Jack, what I’m going to say is sensitive.”

Jack Canon’s American Destiny

6065346[1]Title: Jack Canon’s American Destiny

Author: Greg Sandora

Genre: Political Thriller

It’s the steamy summer of 2016 in Washington, D.C. just days before the Democratic National Convention. A long and painful recession has left ordinary Americans suffering, spawning the hottest Presidential Contest in history. Jack Canon, a man born into privilege, a witness to great social injustice is going to be President of the United States–no matter what! Desperate and corrupt, the leader of the free world orders a hit to slow him down. The plan backfires–the wrong people are dead–a manhunt points to the unthinkable–The President of the United States.
Rewind one year, Jack’s focus on redistribution of wealth and energy has made him powerful enemies. Once his friends, Rogue Billionaires, Oil Sheiks, the Mob, all want him gone. The current President wants him alive–thinking he can win against an unabridged liberal. I am currently working on the sequel to Jack Canon’s American Destiny – which will be titled Jack Canon Clean Sweep. The sequel will be available in about three months.

Some of my other projects include a children’s book called Sammy the Sea Turtle – about an infant sea turtle taken from his nest the night he was to find his way to the sea. Sammy lives with the family until their son – the boy who took him, graduates from high school. On that day Sammy, backpack in tow – begins the long journey home.

My second project in the works involves angels – a man during a visit to Bar Harbor Maine encounters an angel; quite accidentally, he is told – she was not supposed to make him aware of her existence. Only three others have ever seen the real thing. Naturally he falls hopelessly in love with the beautiful creature.

3929240[1]_optI’m originally from the Portland, Maine area and lived and worked there for years before moving to Southwest Florida. I am currently working on the sequel to Jack Canon’s American Destiny – which will be titled Jack Canon Clean Sweep. The sequel will be available in about three months.
My Dad and Mom were artists, my father painted and my mother wrote poetry and loved to garden. Most Saturdays we loaded up the 1970 Chevy Impala to trek to a one man show somewhere or other. I took a different track graduating with a business degree; owning and operating an Award Winning Franchise Fitness Center. Currently a professional manager I am living in Florida with my beautiful wife and children, and following my passion.
