About the Book

Title: Stolen Obsession

Author: Marlene M. Bell

Genre: Romantic Suspense

PEOPLE DIE, BUT LEGENDS LIVE ON.

Manhattan antiquities appraiser Annalisse Drury dreams of a quiet life on the family farm among the sheep she loves, when her best friend is murdered. The police assume robbery is the motive because her friend’s expensive bracelet is missing. But the 500-year-old artifact is rumored to carry an ancient curse, one that unleashes evil upon any who dare wear the jewelry created for the Persian royal family—and Annalisse believes her friend is the latest victim.

Weeks later, Annalisse sees a necklace matching the stolen bracelet at a gallery opening. Convinced the necklace is part of the deadly collection, Annalisse begs the gallery’s owner to destroy the piece, but her pleas are ignored— despite the unnatural death that occurs during the opening. With two victims linked to the jewelry, Annalisse is certain she must act.

Desperate to keep the gallery owner safe, Annalisse reluctantly enlists the owner’s son to help—even though she’s afraid he’ll break her heart. Wealthy and devastatingly handsome, with a string of bereft women in his wake, Greek playboy Alec Zavos dismisses Annalisse’s concerns—until his parents are ripped from the Zavos family yacht during their ocean voyage near Crete.

Annalisse and Alec race across two oceans to save his mother, feared dead or kidnapped. As time lapses, the killer switches mode and closes in on the man who’s meant for Annalisse with the lifestyle she wants most.

But when it’s her turn as the hunted, will she choose to save Alec and his mother, or sacrifice everything to save herself?

Can two broken souls be repaired, or will the demons of the past and present come between the repressed love that grows between them?

In Saved, two strangers find each other in an unexpected, almost miraculou way. Theresa Kent is a wife, mother and hardworking nurse living in rural Colorado. Her life is pretty good, until her husband suddenly snaps and attacks her horribly. Theresa struggles to escape from the man she once loved who seemingly has turned into a monster.

Meanwhile, Ryan Tucker enters the picture as Theresa’s rescuer. He’s a man who at first glance seems to have it all… except real, genuine emotions. He hasn’t really felt anything for the last three years. That is, until he meets Theresa and decides that he has to protect this stranger, at all costs. With Theresa’s husband still out there, hunting for her, Theresa and Ryan aren’t out of the woods yet… And if a mad man hunting them isn’t bad enough, repressing the growing feelings between them is even worse.

I liked the premise of the story, about a second love, about two broken souls finding each other. More than carried by plot, this book is primarily carried by the characters. Both Theresa and Ryan are intriguing characters with engaging personalities. They have a past, they have quirks, things that make them unique and stand out. The chemistry between them is undeniable, and the author does a good job creating additional tension that way.

Fans of romantic suspense novels will no doubt love this book.

Book Review and Giveaway: Sunset Reads: Damian & Layla by D.C. Triana

One year.

It’s been one year since Agent Damian Trent left for Washington without a word.

One year since he’s seen her beautiful face.

One year since he’s heard his name on her lips.

He’s been recently called back to New York City on assignment, to catch a criminal who’s trying to infiltrate Sunset Reads. The last thing he expects is to work side by side with the woman he turned his back on.

Having her close is an unwanted distraction that he’s more than willing to ignore, if only she wasn’t so damn tempting.

Everything seems under control, until a night of feverish passion has him abandoning all thoughts of reason. Now, he will do everything in his power to get her back, and even more so to protect her.

Layla Reece wants nothing to do with the man who left her a year ago.

The man who took her heart with him, leaving her broken.

After a year of trying to forget Damian Trent, she is finally ready to move on.

But trying to forget him becomes a tedious task when he suddenly reappears in her life.

Although she fights to stay away, his magnetism is too strong and she finds herself giving into the deep timbre of his voice, and the strength and safety of his arms.

Staying away from Damian turns out to be futile, especially when his kisses consume her and his heart shatters the walls she spent so much time building.

Finding herself in danger, she now has to turn to the only man she trusts to keep her safe, but can she trust him enough to give him her heart once again?

Sunset Reads: Damian & Layla is actually the second book in a series, but it can be read as a standalone. I could easily follow what was happening, even though I hadn’t read the first book.

Layla’s been trying hard to forget the man who left her a year ago, to get over him, heal and move on. But when Damian returns, she finds that the spark they shared, the chemistry between them is still there. And when she finds herself giving in to passion, and is forced to trust Damian to protect her and everything she holds dear, she starts to wonder if she can trust him with her heart again as well…

This was a fun second chance romance with a lot of suspenseful elements. The characters are great, and I especially liked Damian, but then again, I do have a soft spot for FBI agents. The book is definitely for adults, though, since there are some hot and spicy scenes, which only made the book even better.

The writing was solid too, and the plot entertaining. I look forward to reading more books by this author, and if I find some time in my schedule, I might pick up book one in the series.

An insecure bombshell, unpredictable stalker, and guilt-ridden hero clash in this story of redemption, trust, self-belief, and the lengths people will go to for true love.

Jennifer “Jenny” Abrahams has three goals: to teach women about mixed martial arts, become North Carolina’s first female mixed martial arts champion, and find true love. Two things stand in her way: the stalker intent on claiming her for himself and her emotional insecurities.

At a crossroads in his career as a witnesses protection minder, Peter “Pete” Gandry, is given the opportunity to return to the scene of his only failure––Smithfield, North Carolina. The assignment is familiar: he must keep an eye on Diana King. He agrees, hoping it will help him find redemption and ease the guilt he feels.

Odd things begin to happen to Jenny. At first, she dismisses them as over-reacting to memories of a stalker from her past. Until, she receives an unsettling note. Four words stand out: I crave your touch . . .

Increasingly, the evidence points to someone she knows. Who can she trust? And, who is this mysterious newcomer who has ignited long buried passion within her?

When the sister of an old nemesis arrives in Smithfield, Pete is forced to expose his true identity. The town quickly turn against him. Just when he thinks it can’t get worse, the stalking evidence begins to point to him.

Can he clear his name and save Jenny from the real stalker in time?

Crave Her Touch is the second book in the “Smithfield” series. Book one, See Her Run, tells Diana King’s story.

In Crave Her Touch, our protagonist, Jennifer “Jenny” Abrahams has three goals in life: teach women about mixed martial arts, become North Carolina’s first female mixed martial arts champion, and find true love. Unfortunately, things get complicated when she has a stalker on her heels, and has to deal with her own emotional insecurities.

Peter “Pete” Gandry works in witness protection. An assignment brings him to Smithfield, where he hopes to find redemption for what happened in the past.

As Jenny’s stalking problem takes a sinister turn and evidence points toward Pete, can he clear his name, and save Jenny from the real stalker in time?

This was a chilling, fast-paced read with an intriguing set of characters. I especially liked Jenny. She was such a strong, independent woman, and even though she had some emotional insecurities, I found she had a lot of strength too. The writing was very fluent, and I practically flew through the pages, flipping one after the other, completely immersed into the story.

A great read for those chilling winter months that kept me on the edge of my seat. Perfect for fans of romantic suspense.

Book Review: The Venus Cure by A.K. Leigh

Genre: Romantic Suspense

Sometimes, all that is needed is a woman’s touch…

Torrance Monroe couldn’t be happier. She has landed her dream job as a botanical scientist for the Parks and Wildlife Service in Wilmington, North Carolina. Her specialty will be the conservation, study, and propagation of the native plants that have fascinated her since her earliest memories: the Venus Fly Trap.

Dominique Black isn’t happy. As a Wildlife Officer, he has been working at the grass roots level to save the endangered traps from poachers looking to make a quick buck. It is gruelling work, with the majority of offenders going unpunished. How could a scientist with zero experience in the field help him when even the law was failing?

The two are at immediate odds even though they share the same underlying passion for the plants…and each other.

However, after a well-known poacher harvests traps from one of the local swamplands, Tori and Dom must set aside their differences in order to catch the criminal and keep the remaining plants from being harmed.

In the process, Tori learns to rely on the mysterious Venus Fly Trap folk lore she remembers from her childhood. Dom learns to release control and have faith in another person.

The Venus Cure is a fast-paced, erotic, and lightly mystical, romantic suspense novella that centers around the serious issue of Venus Fly Trap poaching. The author chose the title based on five possible meanings. See how many you are able to discover!

In The Venus Cure, we meet with two characters who are at two different ends of the spectrum. On the one hand, there’s Torrance Monroe, who landed her dream job as a botanical scientist. She’ll have to focus on the conservation and study of the Venus Fly Trap, one of the native plants that has fascinated her for as long as she could remember. Dominique Black however, Wildlife Officer, isn’t too pleased with the scientist showing up. She has no experience in the field, and he fears she’ll be a liability more than a help. He’s worked day and night to keep the Venus Traps from poachers, and is very passionate about it too.

Although both characters are very passionate about the Venus Fly Trap, they’re quite passionate for each other too. I particularly loved how the book focused on this plant – I thought a book that brought two characters together based on their mutual love for a plant wouldn’t be that enticing, but I’m proved wrong. As Tori and Dom learn that they aren’t so different after all, and they learn to rely on each other, they form a mutual connection.

I’m not a fan of insta-love, so I enjoyed how the romance wasn’t that spontaneous here, but how both started off at odds. I liked both characters. They were three dimensional, especially Tori, and I felt like I could really connect to them.

The book had several erotic scenes. Those are tough to write, but the author did an admirable job. If you enjoy romance with a touch of mystery and suspense, then I would recommend The Venus Cure.

About the Book

ON THE RUN1410x2250Title: On The Run

Author: Susan Amanda Kelly

Genre: Romance / Adventure / Comedy

Minerva Coolidge, a top east coast lingerie model, has been ordered home to the west coast by her over-protective, occasionally psychotic family. Daddy’s outlaw motorcycle club is embroiled in a war and Minnie is too valuable a pawn to leave in play. But Minnie refuses to give up her new life. She’s about to star in the biggest fashion show of her career. Her brother asks an old army friend, Big Mike, to guard her until they can fetch her home. Minnie thinks Big Mike is too big, too muscled, too tattooed, too tough… too everything. He’s exactly the kind of man she moved across country to escape; the kind who thinks he knows what’s best for her; the kind who doesn’t belong in her glossy, perfect, new life; the kind she shouldn’t want…

Big Mike thinks keeping a nitwit fashion model safe long enough to hand her over to her family should be easy for an ex-biker, ex-Special Forces commander who outweighs his charge by at least one-hundred-and-fifty pounds. Except the pretty nitwit isn’t a nitwit. Each time he takes his eyes off her, she flees, plunging headlong into trouble. Big Mike quickly realizes he doesn’t want to take his eyes – or his hands – off Minnie Coolidge…

Author Bio

SusanKellyB&WCroppedMediumSusan Amanda Kelly loves making up stuff in her head. She drives her husband to distraction by suddenly stopping, mid-conversation, and staring off into space. She once spent five hours at sea, on a boat, muttering: “Where would he hide the body?” She hopes the video footage of that trip has been wiped. She finally decided to put the characters that inhabit her head, onto paper. It was like opening the door on a lunatic asylum… glorious bedlam. She hopes her readers come to love her characters as much as she does. She writes funny romantic adventures. And her husband is convinced her male leads are based on him. Not the body-hiding psychopath, of course.

She needs an experienced partner with resources and the connections to places she’s only dreamed of going.

Could the handsome and wealthy artist Eric North be the partner she seeks? Will her drive to complete the list be enough to overcome her fear of him discovering the scars left from years of abuse? Will Eric protect her from her ex-husband, or will she go home to start over and give up her one chance to complete The Horse List?
