In Hunted, the first book in the Jonathan Harker series, protagonist Jonathan Harker is a mage and demon-hunter trapped by a demon in service to a summoner. If he wants to escape, he’ll have to rely on a bunch of new allies he isn’t sure he can trust, and on his own magic.

Jonathan Harker is an intriguing protagonist. He’s witty and sarcastic, but also very intelligent and not willing to give up without a fight. Jonathan seemed like a real person, and so did the secondary characters. Each character introduced to the readers stood out and was different from the others. The writing was excellent and fast-paced as it quickly dived into the story. The world-building was solid too, and we don’t get any info-dumping as the world slowly unfolds around Harker and his allies (and enemies).

When it comes to paranormal thrillers, this is definitely one of the better books in the genre. If you enjoy this genre, give Jonathan Harker and his magic spells and witty humor a try.

Author Bio

Christopher Draven has worked as an instructional designer, newspaper journalist, and ghost writer.

One soggy Monday morning, he committed to leaving behind the soul-stealing work of corporate puppetry and escaped to a meadow where he could concentrate on his passion. Since that fateful day, Christopher has focused on learning the craft of fiction.

Author Bio

MLSWeechM.L. S. Weech was born in August 1979 in Rapid City, South Dakota. He fell in love with fantasy and science fiction at an early age. His love of writing quickly followed when he tried to write a sequel to his favorite movie. He didn’t know what copyright infringement was. He can’t remember a time he wasn’t working on some sort of project from that day on. He wrote for a junior high project. The only way his freshman english teacher could get him to settle down was to let him start writing a book. He completed what he calls his first manuscript when he was 17.

He got a ton of feedback that was honest, helpful, and not much fun to listen to, but instead of quit, he simply wrote another, and then another.

He fell in love with reading in high school when he was introduced to Timothy Zahn and the Star Wars novels. Then he was handed Anne McCaffrey, Robert Jordan, Dean Koontz, Brandon Sanderson and so many more. He went from reading to complete homework to reading more than three books a month.

He joined the U.S. Navy as a journalist in 2005. He served on aircraft carriers and destroyers. He served in the deserts of Iraq and the mountains of Afghanistan.   He finished his time in the Navy in 2015, and currently teaches future Navy Mass Communication Specialists at the Defense Information School.

When he wasn’t taking pictures or writing features or news stories, he was writing fiction. Photojournalism was a hobby he enjoyed getting paid for, but writing fiction has been and remains his true dream.

He’s completed six manuscripts and is already planning a seventh. He took his third project to Archway Publishing, who helped him turn his life-long dream into a reality.

Spirit guide Pedro normally busies himself with conveying messages from departed loved ones through a psychic named Gwen. But when he encounters a recently deceased teenager, the boy’s anguish just about breaks Pedro’s heart. So the spirit guide decides to try and help this boy. Yet meddling in the affairs of the living is a troublesome business, as Pedro soon discovers.

Nevertheless, he convinces Gwen to take an ocean voyage, and that’s when the trouble begins. Within days of leaving port, two passengers on the cruise ship fall into a mysterious coma. Gwen seeks Pedro’s help to restore these passengers, but natural as well as unnatural obstacles keep getting in the way. And by the time the ship docks in Honolulu, the still-living are flat out scrambling for their lives!

A playful blend of science fiction and the paranormal, The Color of Clouds offers a glimpse into the unseen world while taking the reader on an extraordinary ride. The adventure includes danger, mystery, humor, sweet romance and even a dash of thriller.

But the clouds are not what you think.

In The Color of Clouds, Pedro is a spirit guide who helps conveys messages from the deceased to the living through a psychic named Gwen. Pedro usually doesn’t interfere much in the affairs of either the living or the deceased (besides conveying the messages) but that changes when he meets a young boy who passed away just recently and is very troubled, and Pedro decided to help him. His psychic friend, Gwen, agrees to go on a cruise that could help Pedro with his quest to aid the boy.

Deanna and her husband Paul are on a relaxing cruise trip together. Or at least, “relaxing” was the point, but now they’re seated with an elderly couple and a table, Ernst and Sylvie (who keeps on calling him Ernie) and Gwen (aforementioned psychic) and her sister Jo. The six of them quickly become acquainted and realize they might have more in common than they at first thought. But when Gwen gets a message about “danger” ahead, a strange light slips past the ship, and two passangers fall into a coma, the six of them soon find themselves in danger.

As a fan of everything related to ghosts, I enjoyed The Color of Clouds. The book focuses on the six characters: Gwen and Jo, Ernst and Sylvia, and Paul and Deanna. They all have a different personality and are unique enough to merit a POV of their own. The POV sometimes shifts to other characters to, like Herman Lunz, head of security on board of the ship. All the POVs blend nicely, providing a few plot twists I did not see coming.

The writing is fast-paced, and once you start reading, it’s hard to stop. The book manages to blend science-fictoin and paranormal in a story that kept me on the edge of my seat.

Lost Girl is an extraordinary book, a paranormal mystery at its finest, with believable, relatable characters, plot twists I never saw coming, a dark, chilling terror dripping down from the pages and a relentless pace from start to end.

Allison Weathers wants what we all want at some point – to start anew. To do so, she moves away from the big city, and to the small mountain town of Dawson Mills in Tennessee. The added bonus is that the town is connected to her mother’s disappearance, and Allison wants to continue the search for her mother, no matter what the cost. She has fallen in love with the Victorian farmhouse she’s purchased, and she’s ready to start life all on her own.

Unfortunately, that’s easier said than done, especially when her new house starts to lead a life of its own. Disembodied voices out of nowhere startle Allison in the dead of night. Shadows shift in the corridors of her new home. Someone is watching her. And then there’s the little children she and her friends noticed on the first night in the new house. The longer Allison begins to think about it, the more she grows convinced those children may not even be alive anymore…

With spirits haunting her at every corner, Allison enlists the help of local reporter Toni Harper. Toni has heard gossip from the latest owner who died in his bed in the house, but hasn’t been able to get to the root of the story yet. However, she’s determined to find out. With Toni’s help, Allison discovers the house’s sinister history…and how her own past is tied to it.

There’s also a little bit of romance, in the form of Paul Bradford, a contractor who is doing renovations on Allison’s house. He’s the first one to believe it’s more than Allison’s imagination, and who convinces her she isn’t crazy, but something else is going on. Paul was a good love interest – their relationship developed slowly, and he was a good, solid guy. The kind you can trust, trust being the main thing Allison needed in a relationship.

Allison herself was a lovely character as well. Her personality was very down-to-earth, especially considering what happened to her, and she didn’t freak out easily. She was intelligent, brave, friendly and driven by a sense of curiosity and wonder I can easily relate to.

But besides the characters, I really loved the plot. These kind of novels, that hold the middle between horror and paranormal mystery, those are my absolute favorite reads. And Lost Girl is definitely one of the better reads in that category. The mystery is complicated enough that you can’t get it right away, there are ominous signs early on, and there’s suspense and dread surrounding the reader and the characters from the first page.

An impressive novel, and I’m most definitely looking forward to reading more by this author. Highly recommended to everyone who loves a good ghost story and/or paranormal mystery.
