I am trapped in the marathon world.

Help!! I cannot find any way to escape the marathon jungle world.

Stop being a case study in the runner’s world.

Dolphins Don’t Run Marathons will lead you towards a new direction so you will be able to find a way to escape from the world of marathons and move on to a new, positive sporting life.

Sam Brand thinks that the peak of the marathons may have been reached. Dolphins Don’t Run Marathons will show you the way to reinvent yourself, to become a new you, with the 26.2 loving thoughts that will change your running world.

Dolphins Don’t Run Marathons is Sam Brand’s philosophy behind sports and happiness.

You can shape your world, become a dolphin, all other animals are already taken.

Go for the human dolphin’s magic life.

So, apparently, according to Dolphins Don’t Run Marathons there are different types of people aka animals: Human Ants, who are running marathons, Human Dolphins who exercise regularly but are not overly obsessed with exercising, and Human Chimps, who do little to no exercise.

Okay, so admittingly, I’m a chimp and nowhere near Dolphin or Ant territory, although I would like to be a Dolphin, and it’s been on my new year’s resolution list for years to start exercising regularly. But something always comes up and by now, I’m an expert at finding excuses why I should not exercise, ranging from lack of time to lack of space to lack of whatever-I-can-come-up-with-at-the-time.

The book is quite simple and straightforward. It promotes running and exercise but with measure, and stresses that people shouldn’t overdo it, which sounds like a healthy approach to me.

Meet ambitious, dynamic Tamar – a young star bucking the system.

This captivating true story, based on diary entries, takes place in the early days of the kibbutz. Tamar, an adolescent girl and the story’s heroine, draws the reader into a whirlwind of emotions, adventure, and constant wonder at the power of nature. She likes to challenge herself and almost every rule and framework of the society in which she lives. She is swept into a world of competitions and ambitious high achievement.

Plots and sub-plots intertwine as Tamar courageously navigates her path.

How will the equality-based kibbutz society, built largely by Tamar’s parents, react to the young Israeli champion? She forms a courageous friendship and a treacherous love. A weapon appears in the story’s beginning and is fired at its conclusion, bringing about a surprising and tragic ending. The motif of endless confrontation between the individual and society and how society imposes its rules comes to light through Tamar’s unique reactions. Can she maintain her freedom?

In The Ones Who Won, Tamar is a young woman growing up in a community known as kibbutz – something I knew next to nothing about. The book sheds an interesting light on the kibbutz community, from the perspective of a young woman raised in these circumstances.

It’s an intriguing perspective, and through Tamar’s reactions on certain situations, you realize as a reader how different life is for people raised this way. Despite this, Tamar is a strong-willed woman who likes to challenge herself, particularly in sports, and who sets very high goals for herself.

An inspiring book, well-written and captivating.

The Sweet Spot by Anneli Lort (Tour Banner)

Book Excerpt

Almost half an hour later, Sebastian was exhausted but still holding his own.  He’d confessed his sins and asked for forgiveness on prime-time national television, and it was almost over.

“I’d pretty much hit rock bottom when I had to fulfil the commitment I’d made to write my autobiography. I tried to back out of it, fought tooth and nail with Richie to get it canned, tried to give back the advance I’d taken from the publisher.  You name it, I did it, but in the end, as I sit here now, I can say that I’m so very glad that it went ahead as planned.”

Piers smiled knowingly at the audience: “Olivia Carmichael, I presume?”

“Good God, does nothing escape your beady eyes, Piers?” Sebastian joked. “Once a tabloid hack always a tabloid hack, eh? And there’s me thinking you were too highbrow for the gossip magazines these days.”

The audience, sensing an upwards shift in Sebastian’s mood, were delighted that he seemed to be in control of his host.

“Well Sebastian, there’ve been some photographs of you both making the rounds, and she’s been on your arm at most of the major events in the last year, so it isn’t hard to put two and two together.” He turned to the audience: “And for the benefit of our viewers, if you don’t know, Olivia Carmichael is an award-winning sports journalist who was commissioned to help write Sebastian’s life story.”

“Yes, Olivia’s been instrumental in my recovery, she made me want to get better, and that’s what helped me find form on the golf course again.  My game has always been linked to my emotions. If I’m happy I play well, if I’m not, well we all know what happens.  My freefall from the world golf rankings is testament to that.”

“So how did she get through to you when your close friends and family couldn’t?” asked Piers.

“She didn’t put up with any of my crap from day one,” Sebastian explained.  “She took me on and came out on top, and made me see how badly I’d been behaving.  She made me want to be a better person, and I hadn’t felt like that for a very long time.  Look Piers, I’m not going to go into detail and tell you the how and the why. I know you want me to, but let’s just say that this extraordinary woman saved me.”

“And where is she now? Are you together?” Piers was on the edge of his seat, almost as excited as his audience.

“Wow, that certainly was unexpected, it’s not often we have a Romeo and Juliet moment on my show,” Piers exclaimed.  “That was a brave thing to do, don’t you agree ladies and gentlemen?” He almost burst with joy. He knew this would be front-page news, and he had the exclusive.

“So, Sebastian, don’t keep us in suspense, where will you be if Olivia comes calling?”

“Piers, even you know where I’ll be,” he replied. “At The Open Championship in the home of golf, St Andrews, taking on the world and hoping to bring home the Claret Jug.  It’s the one I’ve always wanted to win and this is my year. I feel good about my game. Hell, I feel great about it. I can’t wait.”

“And in taking on the world you’re also taking on Troy McLoud, who is, in fact, the defending champion.”

“Yes, and I’m going to beat him,” Sebastian grinned.

The audience was on its feet, cheering and whooping, willing their new favourite golfer to succeed. It took a full minute for Piers to restore peace.

“Well, I think we can safely say you’ve won over our audience, and I’m certain the viewers at home too. You’ve gained some new fans today, Sebastian.  You’ve given us an unusually open and honest insight into your life. You’ve been weighed and measured, and let me tell you, you’ve not been found wanting.  I think I can speak for everyone when I say that I wish you the very best of luck, both on and off the golf course.”

Sebastian ginned. “Piers, I’d like to say it’s been a blast, but that would be my first lie of the night.  Thank you for giving me the stage to set the record straight. The time to move on is now, and I’m grasping it with both hands.”

Piers had the last word. “It’s been a real pleasure having you on, and thank you for your genuinely honest answers to some tough questions. Ladies and gentlemen, Sebastian Bloom.”

The room erupted once more and Sebastian felt the weight of the world lifting from his shoulders. All he had to do now was win The Open Championship and convince Olivia to come back to him.

About Anneli Lort

Anneli Lort lived with a charming cast of characters in her head for a number of years before she found the time to sit down and bring them to life in the Appleton Vale series. Once she put pen to paper her imagination was free to create a character driven world of contemporary romance that is both heartwarming and engaging.

In a public relations career that spanned more than two decades Anneli worked closely with elite professionals at the highest level and with some of the world’s biggest sporting companies. With this came an access-all-areas pass to the greatest sports events on the planet where she saw for herself the tension, drama and emotions that were played out behind the scenes. While TV audiences around the world watched the sporting excitement unfold, she was there to witness first-hand what really happened before and afterwards – the untold stories the rest of the world never got to see. This is the rich and enviable background she brings to her debut novel – The Sweet Spot.

Anneli lives in a village much like her fictional creation – Appleton Vale – that is nestled against the foothills of the South Downs. She spends her days working in brand communications, writing, walking her dog – Hector – and riding her New Forest Pony Henry. The dog shares the house; the horse has his own rather spacious accommodation.

Anneli is currently writing the second novel in the Appleton Vale series – The Country Club – which will be on sale in December 2017.

About The Book

SavingBabeRuthBookCover423x648Title: Saving Babe Ruth

Author: Tom Swyers

Genre: Literary Fiction / Thriller / Sports

Based on a true story, Saving Babe Ruth is an award-winning novel about a family headed by David Thompson, a burned-out lawyer and Civil War buff. When he learns that the town’s youth baseball league is going to fold, David’s love for the sport and for his son, Christy, inspire him to try to save it for the boys in town. David puts his fading career on hold as he struggles to resurrect this dream while at the same time trying to salvage his marriage to his wife, Annie.

Though Christy and Annie want to see him save the league, David finds himself in way over his head; the more he passionately tries to save it, the more he ends up hurting Christy and Annie. It’s a catch-22 that leaves his family wounded and David lost, wedged between his desire to revive the league so he can live with himself, and the desire to heal his family so they can live with him.

When David starts to keep secrets from Annie to satisfy these desires, he weaves a web of deceit that further fractures the family. At the same time, the town wrestles to keep its own secrets under wraps while it almost bursts with people leading double lives. They want David and the league to fail, and they’ll stop at nothing to get what they want, even if they have to go through Christy and Annie to get it.

With the help of Johnny McFadden–a newfound friend who’s addicted to baseball–David concocts a plan to defend the league and his family. The pair will have to navigate through a maze of backroom politics, corruption, scandal and crime that extends to the professional sports world. David will have to call upon all of his legal and survival skills to try and turn things around.

Saving Babe Ruth is also the inspiring story about a baseball team full of teenage outcasts struggling to believe in themselves. When the time is right, they’ll face the prospect of having to fight crazy with crazy to save baseball for themselves, their town and beyond.

The novel reveals the underbelly of youth sports that’s hurting communities nationwide today, but readers and reviewers say you don’t have to be a fan of baseball or sports to enjoy the story. Its themes, including one of community responsibility, are beginning to resonate. The story is so powerful that one of the nation’s leading professional sports agents has threatened a lawsuit over the book. The novel has even caused one town to come to a standstill to hold an emergency board meeting over it. Watch this trailer video to learn more about how Saving Babe Ruth came to life.

New York Times bestselling author Margot Livesey says Swyers “has created a man for all seasons” in David Thompson and calls Saving Babe Ruth “an absorbing and compulsively readable novel.”

Saving Babe Ruth is the winner of a number of accolades including the 2015 Benjamin Franklin Book Award for “Best First Book: Fiction.”

If you like fast-paced and humor-laced stories, don’t miss this family’s fight to stay together as it confronts a youth sports underworld loaded with captivating characters.

Author Bio

TomSwyersProfileAward-winning author Tom Swyers first had an audience on the edge of their seat (and the girls giggling) when his play, The Great Train Robbery, made its debut in the seventh grade.

After high school, he worked his way through some of the best colleges in the country. Employed in a variety of jobs ranging from a late-night convenience store clerk to a fine jewelry salesperson, Tom eventually graduated from college and then worked his way through law school in the caverns of Wall Street.

Since then, he’s studied at the New York State Summer Writer’s Institute at Skidmore College. He’s also a member of both the Authors Guild and the Hudson Valley Writers Guild.

Along the way, he married his high school sweetheart and raised a family. With that came baseball, but that’s another story (Saving Babe Ruth). Tom is also an award-winning youth sports advocate.

When he isn’t writing or reading, Tom is usually running (literally) away from trouble on the back roads of Upstate, New York where he lives with his family and two cats (really two dogs working undercover).

Saving Babe Ruth is his first novel and these are some of the awards it has received:

  • Gold Winner, “Best First Book: Fiction,” 2015 Independent Book Publishers Association’s Benjamin Franklin Book Awards.
  • Silver Winner, “Best Popular Fiction,” 2015 Independent Book Publisher Association’s Benjamin Franklin Book Awards.
  • Reader Views, “Best Regional Fiction 2014/2015: Northeast.”

Book Review: Fire on Ice by Dakota Madison

Fire on Ice Front SmallTitle: Fire on Ice

Genre: Contemporary Romance, Sports

Age Group: Adult (18+)

Rating: 4 stars

Review copy provided by Enchanted Book Promotions in exchange for an honest review.

He’s Fire on Ice and she’s afraid to get burned again…
“You always think a guy is going to be different until he’s not.”

Firestorm Center Kian Kavanagh dominates the ice like a rock star dominates the stage. He’s the hottest new player to be recruited for the Firestorm, a newly established professional hockey team in Northern Arizona.

After Taylor Thompson’s heart was completely shattered by her high school’s most popular jock, she vowed never to date another athlete. And she keeps that promise through her first three years of college by putting up impenetrable walls to protect her from heartbreak.

But after a chance meeting with the charming and irresistible Kian Kavanagh, Taylor’s carefully constructed walls are in serious danger of being burned down by Mr. Fire on Ice.

Fire on Ice was a pleasant, at times even sensual read. The book is marketed for a new adult audience, and granted, the main characters fit the target age, yet I think it is more suitable for the adult market. There are various 18+ scenes and since sometimes kids as young as sixteen start reading new adult books, I’ll keep to saying this book is definitely 18+. The main characters are both college-age as well.

We meet Kian Kavanagh, a hockey player and star player of his team, Firestorm. Kian is rather popular with the girls, called “puck bunnies”, and they’d do anything to get into his pants. Kian usually enjoys the attention, but on this particular night out, his interest is piqued by a gorgeous girl studying at the bar. Who the heck studies at a bar? When he tries to strike up conversation, the girl, Taylor, tells him she’s not dating any hockey players, like ever. Kian is more intrigued than ever before, and he swears he won’t rest until she goes on a date with him.

For Taylor, giving Kian a chance is the toughest thing she’s ever done after a terrible experience with her ex-boyfriend, Austin, who also happened to be a hockey player. Even though she feels a strong pull toward Kian, she’ll have to let go of the past before she can move on. And then there’s also her best friend Kyle, who’s supported her through everything that happened, and who may have started developing feelings for her as well….

What I liked the most here was how different Kian and Taylor are. Kian comes from a lower-class family, and he’s been struggling his entire life, with a Dad sent to prison and a Mom addicted to drugs. Basically it’s always been him against the world. Taylor has had a much more priviledged upbringing, with loving parents who’d do whatever it takes to protect her.

The characters had sparks flying all over the pages. They’re an unlikely couple, but they make it work. There’s also plenty of subplots going on to make the book intriguing, like a stalker following Taylor, her dealing with her past, and even another girl expressing interest in Kian.

A fun, quick, and romantic read.
