About The Book

Title: Riversnow

Author: Tess Thompson

Genre: Romantic Supsense

Genevieve Banks is beautiful and successful – and one of Hollywood’s highest paid actresses.

While filming opposite Hollywood’s heartthrob Stefan Spencer in River Valley, Genevieve and Stefan form a deep friendship. He wants to take their relationship to the next level, but a violent incident from Genevieve’s past has made her feel intimacy is an impossibility.

When her closely guarded secret is revealed, Genevieve is forced into a decision: Stay silent and let others suffer or bravely confront her violent past and the man who hurt her.

In this fourth installment of the bestselling River Valley Series, author Tess Thompson explores themes of community, friendship and love.

Author Bio

Tess Thompson is a bestselling novelist of romantic suspense. She’s also a Zumba dancing queen, though the wearing of the crown is reserved for invitation-only appearances. Recently she’s participated in obstacle course races, the hardest of which was the Spartan Beast in Sun Peaks, British Columbia. It was an awful experience that will soon be included in a novel. There was running. And climbing a mountain. And obstacles, like walls and crawling under barbed wire. She is not the running or obstacle queen.

Like her characters in the River Valley Collection, Tess hails from a small town in southern Oregon, and will always feel like a small town girl, despite the fact she’s lived in Seattle for over twenty-five years. She loves music and dancing, books and bubble baths, cooking and wine, movies and snuggling. She cries at sappy commercials and thinks kissing in the rain should be done whenever possible. Although she tries to act like a lady, there may or may not have been a few times in the last several years when she’s gotten slightly carried away watching the Seattle Seahawks play, but that could also just be a nasty rumor.
She currently lives in a suburb of Seattle, Washington with her brand new husband, the hero of her own love story, and their Brady Bunch clan of two sons, two daughters and five cats, all of whom keep her too busy, often confused, but always amazed. Yes, that’s four kids, three of whom are teenagers, and five cats. Pray for her.

Tess loves to hear from you. Drop her a line, or visit her Facebook Fan Page, or follow her on Pinterest and Twitter.

Author Interview with D.C. Triana

  • How long have you been writing?

Since I was sixteen years old. I used to write to escape from bullying in school. I found solace in writing my journals.

  • What is your favorite genre to write?

Romance, although I am partial to vampire series.

  • Which genre have you never tried before, but would you like to try out?

I’m dipping my toes into Suspense right now, which has proven to be interesting. But the genre I definitely want to delve into, is horror.

  • Please tell us about your book.

Damian & Layla is the second the second couple in the Sunset Reads series. They are William & Cristina’s best friends. I wanted Damian to be the opposite of William. Less charm, more rough around the edges. He’s exciting and dark, and knows what he wants. Layla is a woman who has been hurt by love. She’s smart and is finally getting her life together when Damian shows up again. She suddenly finds herself running into the arms of the man she swore to stay away from, because he is the only one she trusts to protect her. There’s villains and lovers. It’s a thrilling story.

  • Which character was your favorite, and why? Which character was your least favorite, and why?

My favorite character was Damian. I liked his sexiness and that he wasn’t perfect. His imperfections are what draws you to him. My least favorite character was Katerina Dubov, the antagonist. She was very intricate and I had to make the storyline around her confusing and dark. It was a new task for me to place myself in her shoes. Although it may have been my least favorite, I still enjoyed writing her. It was a new experience.

  • What was the hardest part about writing your book?

Being an FBI agent is tough, especially when you have no clue of what that world entails. I have to say the research is always the hardest part when writing a book.

  • What is your writing routine? Are there things you absolutely need to start writing?

Well, I don’t really have one. It happens out of the blue. I could be at work, watching a movie, listening to music and bam, the idea comes into play. I always carry a notebook with me due to that factor. The only thing I absolutely need to start writing is music and coffee- a Peppermint Mocha is my favorite.

  • How long did it take you to write your book from start to finish?

It took me six months, and that includes the tedious editing portion.

  • Can you tell us about your editing process?

I usually do a first run through of the book and as I go I start to change phrasing, sometimes I expand on the story. The second run through I focus on names and grammar, making sure everything flows. The third run through is done by my best friend. She is a romance book collector and she is the one who gives me the opinion on whether the storyline is interesting. If she tells me she enjoyed it, then it’s a page turner. The fourth run through is done by my wonderful editor who has taken her time to make sure the grammar is correct and the story line makes sense. A tedious process it is.

  • Is this book part of a series? If so, how many installments do you have planned?

Yes, this is the second novel out of four.

  • Do you have any advice for aspiring authors?

My only advice is to go for it. Don’t be afraid just hit that enter button and publish. Take the bad with the good, learn from it, and move forward. If you get stuck on the negative alone you’ll never succeed. Also, expect bad reviews. Not everyone is going to love your book, but that doesn’t mean you won’t succeed.

  • Why should everyone read your book?

Because Damian is hot! Lol. Seriously, it’s a thrilling read, It’s got suspense, romance, and hot sexy scenes, what more can you ask for. It’s also a wonderful love story.

  • If you could meet three authors, dead or alive, which authors would you choose?

Oh wow, my first is Jane Austen. I absolutely adore her work. Her strength to be able to do what she wanted in that time is admirable. My second author is Laurell K. Hamilton because she rocks and is a total badass just like her characters. The third author is Lauren Blakely, she’s a fantastic author and a total inspiration as to what I want to become. I’d love to delve into her mind and find out how she comes up with such fantastic stories.

  • What inspired you to write your book?

Sunset Reads was an idea I got from past relationships mixed in with my obsession with Superman. I thought what if I could find such a perfect man in reality, what would he be like and William appeared. Damian is the opposite of the blue-eyed hunk, the dark to his light. I always wanted to work for a publishing house and live in Manhattan which is where the setting started out. Layla is a successful PR director which is my dream job. Slowly the stories started to flow and a lot of the characters are based on my actual friends.

  • Are you working on something at the moment? If so, can you tell us more about it?

Yes, I’m working on the third installment of Sunset Reads, Sebastian & Daisy. Sebastian is turning out to be one of my favorites. He’s the slick, dirty talking, narcissistic alpha-male every woman loves to hate. Daisy is definitely turning out to be an eccentric female lead, she’s got her vulnerability and fights her attraction to Sebastian and his smooth-talking ways. Their story is turning out to be quite interesting and super fun.

Author: D.C. Triana

Genre: Romantic Suspense

One year.

It’s been one year since Agent Damian Trent left for Washington without a word.

One year since he’s seen her beautiful face.

One year since he’s heard his name on her lips.

He’s been recently called back to New York City on assignment, to catch a criminal who’s trying to infiltrate Sunset Reads. The last thing he expects is to work side by side with the woman he turned his back on.

Having her close is an unwanted distraction that he’s more than willing to ignore, if only she wasn’t so damn tempting.

Everything seems under control, until a night of feverish passion has him abandoning all thoughts of reason. Now, he will do everything in his power to get her back, and even more so to protect her.

Layla Reece wants nothing to do with the man who left her a year ago.

The man who took her heart with him, leaving her broken.

After a year of trying to forget Damian Trent, she is finally ready to move on.

But trying to forget him becomes a tedious task when he suddenly reappears in her life.

Although she fights to stay away, his magnetism is too strong and she finds herself giving into the deep timbre of his voice, and the strength and safety of his arms.

Staying away from Damian turns out to be futile, especially when his kisses consume her and his heart shatters the walls she spent so much time building.

Finding herself in danger, she now has to turn to the only man she trusts to keep her safe, but can she trust him enough to give him her heart once again?

Travel the world with this realistically written tale while solving a gripping murder mystery.

Optimal Exposure is a memorable novel that skillfully weaves personal experience and rare writing talent to bring about an enthralling and pleasurable read. It is a gripping thriller with a rapidly unfolding plot and nuanced characters that will grab your attention from beginning to end.

In Optimal Exposure, a group of photographers visits an Indian festival, and then loses two of its members in mysterious circumstances. The son of one of the victims decides to investigate the case, but makes some startling discoveries, especially in regards to his late father. At the same time, a police detective and his team are also trying to solve the mystery of who murdered these photographers, and why.

The writing is very expressive, making it easy for a reader to picture the scenes. The author has an easy-flowing writing style, and as soon as I started reading, I was sucked into the story. The author incorporated some cultural and geographical aspects from the locations mentioned in the book, like India, and that worked really well.

The characters were detailed and complex, and the mystery complicated enough to keep me guessing. A solid read for mystery fans, especially if you also like photography or traveling.

Book Review: The Killing Game by The Black Rose

Author: The Black Rose
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Age Group: Adult
Rating: 4,5 stars

A seductive story about corruption, sin, lust, and redemption. The series opens as Ives Andrich, Special Agent in Charge of the New York Division of the FBI, is confronted with investigating the woman he has waited a lifetime to find. Because of her more than accurate novel about an Italian crime lord, the Bureau, against Ives’ wishes, asks for her help in infiltrating the internal organization of the nation’s most nefarious Mafia don. When the Bureau’s plan fails, and she becomes dangerously entangled in the private life of the United States’ most wanted criminal, Ives tolerance for Bureau mishaps vanishes. No holds barred, he puts everything on the line to save the woman he loves in the first book in The Killing Game Series, a suspense thriller series by The Black Rose.

The Killing Game is the first book in a crime / detective series, and it starts off the series with a bang. Ives Andrich, Special Agent of the New York Division of the FBI, is forced to investigate the woman who he has fallen in love with, Allina. More so, the Bureau asks her to infiltrate in the internal organization of a crime lord / mob boss, and when she does and becomes dangerously entangled in the web closing around her, Ives puts everything on the line to save the love of his life.

The book was quite long, at about 500 pages, so I had to read it in a few sittings, but nevertheless, it never felt like a long book. The pacing was fast, the writing excellent, the characters engaging, and I was drawn into the story from the start. The author did a stellar job turning Allina and Ives into well-rounded, three-dimensional characters with actual personalities. While each character, even the secondary ones, is crucial, has an unique personality and brings something of their own to the table, Allina and Ives are the two most intriguing characters.

There were so many twists I couldn’t even begin to describe them if I wanted to – which I don’t, because I don’t want to spoil things for you. But let’s say, this book has a lot of surprises! I’m looking forward to reading the second book.

Book Review In The Line of Duty by Carolyn Arnold

coverTitle: In The Line of Duty
Author: Carolyn Arnold
Genre: Mystery
Age Group: Adult
Rating: 4,5 stars
Purchase: Amazon
Review copy provided by Enchanted Book Promotions in exchange for an honest review.

He devoted his life to seeking justice. But would she get any for him?

It was an ordinary day for police officer Barry Weir. It was the end of shift, he was tired, and he just wanted to get home to his wife and kids. But someone had other plans for him—shooting him down and forcing him to make the ultimate sacrifice.

When news of Weir’s murder reaches the precinct, it leaves Detective Madison Knight and every cop in the Stiles PD itching for revenge. It cuts Madison’s boyfriend, colleague, and Weir’s childhood friend, Troy Matthews, deepest of all, driving him away from everyone he loves, just when they need one another the most.

With evidence pointing to a gang-related drive-by, Madison and her team investigate the town’s seedy underbelly in search of justice for their fallen brother. But the deeper they dig, the more convoluted the case becomes. Now they need to figure out if this was a random shooting as part of a gang initiation, a straight-up hate crime, or a targeted kill. But with the Stiles PD under attack, they have to do it fast…before more people pay with their lives.

Carolyn Arnold is an excellent author. I discovered that much from reading her previous books. But from all her books I’ve read so far, In The Line of Duty, is hands down my favorite.

Detective Madison Knight is the protagonist in this series, and this is the seventh book so far. But even without reading the previous books, you can just pick up this one and enjoy the story. It does make it tougher to keep the characters apart and figure out how they’re all connected than if you’d start from book one, in my opinion, but it’s definitely doable.

Anyway, on to the story. Barry Weir, police officer, gets shot. Detective Madison Knight and her team are itching to catch Barry’s murderer. The one must devastated about Barry’s passing is Troy Matthews, Madison’s boyfriend and Barry’s childhood friend.

Evidence points to a gang-related drive-by, but the deeper Madison and her team dig, the more convoluted the case becomes, and the less likely that Barry Weir was shot in a random shooting…

I don’t want to spoil the story, but there were some clues I picked up on, and others I completely missed. The author did a fabulous job describing the inner workings of a police station and police proceedings.

Madison Knight is an intriguing protagonist. She’s independent, strong, capable, intelligent, and overall, a very realistic character.

This was a gripping, suspenseful story, and highly recommended to anyone who enjoys a good mystery read.

Author Bio

kuma-and-the-black-roseThe Black Rose is an author, photographer, and filmmaker. Born in Chicago, she currently resides in New York with the love her life, her Hokkaido Dog, Kuma. She began writing at the age of seven and dabbled until she woke up one day and simply had to write a novel. She has several 5-Star reviewed novels, both part of individual series.

She categorizes her novels very directly; “My writing is deeply rooted interpersonal relationships: people’s feelings, thoughts, emotions, and the intimacies between two people that truly love each other despite the circumstances surrounding them.” Her genres are suspense, thrillers, crime, romance, and espionage. As she says, “I write about love, honor, and doing the right thing, even when it seems disadvantageous, even when it’s not the popular path to take.” She sees her writing as a gift from God, and appreciates and learns from her stories.

Her writing passion stems from her immense love for art, which began with drawing at age five and moved into oil painting by age eight. Her love and study of photography soon became a professional passion, and she spends hours photographing and laying out her book covers. Readers can visit “Privé with The Black Rose” showcasing behind-the-scenes insights into her writing, novels, characters, photography, and films. She films and produces her book trailers and, in the future, plans to make short films.

To top it off, the Bureau assigns him a to serial murder at a ski hill in the Upper Peninsula–an ice-covered, no-man’s land where snowstorms are measured in feet. Burying himself in work,Colton curses his luck…until he interviews Kyra Erikkson, the manager of Silvercap Resort. Her chestnut curls and baby blues ignite a carnal need that he’d suppressed since the last conniving woman stole his heart. He refuses to let Kyra wiggle her way into his heart. But between her adorable son and her sexy, schoolmarmish ways, will Colton’s emotional wall finally crumble?

A secret past. A life on the run. And an ex from hell.

Kyra Erikkson and her five-year-old son  have spent years hiding from her nightmare ex-husband. Sacrificing everything she loves to keep Jackson safe, Kyra settles in a small town in the Northwoods where life is quiet—until her friend is murdered. When handsome FBI agent Colton Ramsay shows up to investigate, his intrusive questions and brooding attraction both infuriate and arouse Kyra to no end. She tries to keep the man at a safe emotional distance, but as her friend Cat plays matchmaker and Colton’s bond with her son grows, Kyra is forced to make a decision that scares her more than her ex: Can she trust another man with her heart and soul after the last man nearly killed her?

Author Bio

History buff, Francophile, and hopeless romantic– the perfect mixture for writing romance! I have fond childhood memories of reading on quiet afternoons. I loved the “happily ever after” sweet teen romances, but I quickly plunged into the world of historical romance–my get-away-from-real-life transporter. Add in a degree in Political Studies with six years of French–twenty years later, I found a new career.

With three published works, I’m still trying to decide which sub-genre is my favorite. I started with historical romances, and two of the six, Pure of Heart and Pure Temptation, are now published. My first YA novel, Spirit of the Northwoods, was released in April of 2016 for my 17 year old autistic son during Autism Awareness month, hoping to spread familiarity about the daily struggles that an autistic person endures. Silence the Northwoods, the first book of my Romantic Suspense series, will be released on January 21, 2017. A spin-off of Spirit of the Northwoods, it has many of the same secondary characters, but it’s strictly for adults. I have a New Adult novel I’m working on for NaNaWriMo 2016, and I’d love to try my hand at a sweet romance YA series in the future.

I live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan with my husband of 21 years and my four children. I spend the long winters plotting and scheming my next book, and in the mild summers, my family and I spend every waking moment we can hiking and kayaking the Northwoods. Living fifteen miles from the shores of Lake Superior, my muse is often piqued by the awe-inspiring beauty that surrounds me. I live where I play, and I can’t imagine a more fitting place for me!
